Mineola Gould Lientz

Mineola "Sis" Gould Lientz

Mineola "Sis" Gould Lientz died at home surrounded by family and friends on June 3, 2006. Sis was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on October 5, 1917. She married James Richard Lientz on November 9, 1940 in the First Baptist Church in Bogalusa. They were married for 59 years until his death in 2000. Sis moved to Savannah with Jim when he accepted a job with Union Bag & Paper Corporation.

Sis was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, which she and Jim joined in 1948. For years she taught the Sunday School Class for high school students and then in the late 1960s she and Jim organized and taught a class for young couples, which is still active today. She was an Elder Emeritus of the Church.

She was totally devoted to her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sis and Jim attended literally hundreds of recitals, school plays, soccer and baseball games and any other events in which their grandchildren participated.

Sis was active in Boy and Girl Scout programs when her children were young, as well as many of the organizations of their schools. She was a long-time member of Candler Auxiliary and an organizing member of PEO Chapter S in Savannah and later an organizing member of Chapter AS. She and a group of dear friends played bridge together for over 61 years.

Everyone knew Sis as a prolific letter writer. Members of her family, her church family and other dear friends were recipients of her thoughtful notes and cards on the occasions of birthdays, family illness, death, baptism, marriage, or any other event which came to her attention.

She is survived by her three children and their families: Jim, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Atlanta and their children Shannon and Chris Kollme of Atlanta, Mary Kathryn and B.J. Green of Charlotte, North Carolina and Margaret Anne and Mitch Masters of Athens, Georgia; John and his wife Barbie of Savannah and their children Elizabeth and Simon Macfadyen of London, England and Jim, II of Savannah; and Pris Horne and her husband David of Alpharetta and their children Leslie of Atlanta and David, Jr., of Alpharetta; and her great grandchildren, Sidney, Christopher and Mary Douglas Kollme of Atlanta and Kate and Myers Green of Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Avenue, on Tuesday, June 6th at 11:30 a.m.
